A new look

Heh ... Sharon knows me too well. She just set up phpWebSite and linked to me ... her comment? "She has more wardrobe changes than a Vegas showgirl"

Well hang on tight ... cause here we go again! I am in the process of making the final template edits for my new layout. I sense a pattern ... dark, light, dark, then light again. Keeps things interesting ...

OK ... here we go ... templates are loaded, it's time to rebuild!

Whew! That went well ... if anyone sees anything amiss, please comment and let me know!

A new blog on a new server

Introducing, LissaKay, Too

It is a whole new installation of MT on a different server, 1and1.com. They were giving away three years of free hosting, so what the heck? Registering domains there is only $5.99 a year too.

This one is going to be my playground where I install all kinds of goodies, play with hacks and plug-ins, and mostly, chronicle all the things I do to a MT blog. I have tried so many things, run into so many frustrations and eventually, found fixes, I can't remember them all! This will be my notepad, so to speak, where I keep track of the things I try, what works and what doesn't. It should be interesting and fun!

Uber Blockquotes

A nifty little find ... let's see if it works

It would seem that the entry needs to be a little longer, and the CSS for the link style needs some work ... stay tuned!
Blockquotes in HyperText Markup Languae (HTML) can be used to offset quotes from other sources. Their only drawback is that they usually do not specify the source of the quote. By adding a simple javascript and some attributes to the blockquote tag, you can easily get a clickable link that shows the source.

MT Upgrade and a New Toy!

I've upgraded my MT installation to version 2.661. I spent more time back-upping everything, just in case, than I did on the actual upgrade. Easy as pie! This upgrade is for the purpose of combating the comment spam that seems to be plaguing the blogging community. I've had a few ... nothing like the hundreds reported by some though.

I also found this ... instructions on how to add Calendar Previous and Next in MT. Slick as can be! And again, easy to set up. Try it out!

I'm not all that happy with the AllConsuming.net reading list script. So I am on the hunt for a plug in or something that will perform a similar function. I believe there is one at MTPlugins ... I will be checking this out.

Change of Scenery

Like the new look here? I do too ...

I got bored with the old look and decided to go with something darker. The basic layout is the same, but I had to make new category gifs for the sidebars. One of these days, I will learn how to work with graphics. These kinda suck, I think. Especially the one at the top. Oh well ... it's just a blog.

The DXImageTransform trick is a cool one. But the shadow effect only works in Internet Explorer. I'm using it over on my photo blog too, just on the pictures though.

Speaking of which, the kids and I have plans to drive around tomorrow night and take pictures of Christmas lights. There are some pretty spectacular ones around here. That will make some nice additions to the photo blog.

And NO ... I have NOT finished my Christmas shopping yet!!

Testing ...

We had a server crash over the weekend. Many things are whacked out still ... I got the PHP includes to behave. My Gallery and the newer photo album are throwing errors too. Trying to post a new MT entry ... let's see how this goes ...

My Latest and Greatest

Photo Life is my new blog, a photo blog where I am posting some older pictures now, and when caught up, I will add new ones as I take them.

Mucho kudos to Amy of Quixotic Pixels for the fantastic tutorial. I was up and running within minutes. Of course, I had to get my hands dirty tinkering under the hood ... I added some background graphics from Jan's Designs and it is just so purty!

I am in the process of uploading pictures, so it will be changing rapidly. Bookmark, Blogroll ... whatever, just keep checking back for more!

Mistress of My Domain

Oh ... Really?

Yes ... Really. The domain name change is underway. I was just notified by my web host that my new domain LissaKay.com has been set up and the DNS propagation should take about 24-48 hours.

So, if you have a link to me on your site, change "caiobaby" to "lissakay" ... no rush though. Both domains will point to the same page for a while. Also update my email address if you have it saved in your address book!

Oh ... Really?

Oh ... Really? Part Deux

OK ... I installed Movable Type. And survived the ordeal. When I have some time (har har har!!) I will try to port this blog over to that. Nucleus has been OK ... but it is so damn picky, and customization is a royal pain. With MT, all the styles and such are applied through the control panel. With Nucleus, one has to create a separate style-sheet, upload, edit, re-upload. The installation of a plug-in can cause all kinds of hell, as I found out. I enabled FancyURLS here, and lost most of my graphics. I had to go back in and set absolute file paths for all of them. And it is still losing them on occasion.

So ... during the transition, probably this weekend, visits to this site may bring some rather ugly results. I was going to use the template I made with the orchid, but today I discovered a treasure trove of gorgeous photos, all free, royalty-free, high-res and absolutely beautiful! I won't be able to make up my mind which one to use for a template. Oh the agony of decisions!

I also got to playing around with Fireworks, and made myself a Link-to-Me button. It's over on the left ... click on it for copy-paste HTML code to put it on your site. I also made buttons, also over on the left, for a couple of my bestest online buddies, Steve and Sharon. There's a couple more in the works ... so be on the lookout for the Goodie Fairy to bring tiny little bits of goodness your way!

Oh ... and one last thing before I retire ...

It would be even better if I didn't have to go to work ... but I will take what I can get!

I finally got around to adding some more pictures of the kitties to my gallery ...

Cats are really bad for “red eye” with the camera flash. But I was able to fix them up with PSP7. (Now taking donations for PSP8!) I wish I could figure out why the links turn orange on mouse over. I will have to play with the Gallery CSS some more.

I have also been playing around with some Nucleus plug-ins. The Randomness one rocks! I have a ton of those cutesy email lists of quotes and quips. The way it works is it pulls a random line out of a text file. I spent about an hour culling through old emails to make a huge list of these things in several different categories. Maybe tomorrow I will set up another one to place a random image on the page.

I also installed one that places the Category name next to the title of each post. Very cool ... must email the author of that one too.

Trackback still has me majorly confused ... I tested it on a blogger that uses B2 and it didn't work. I have since read on the Nucleus support forum that there is an issue with Nucleus, B2 and Trackback. I will test it out on a MT site, if I can find one. I did get the Karma plug-in working OK. God knows I need all the good Karma I can get!

It's been a wonderfully geeky weekend ... and I just treated myself and the kids to ice cream. Good times.
