Puttin’ on the ... R.I.P.

Thanks for the laughs and the memories, Mr Boyle. Rest in peace.

Truly a classic moment in comedy movie entertainment. I can't hear "Puttin' on the Ritz" without hearing Peter Boyle's hysterically funny rendition - "Oopah doopahhh!" They just don't make movies like that anymore ... could it be that classical actors like Boyle and Wilder just aren't in the biz anymore?

Peter Boyle, who left the life of a monk to study acting and went on to become one of the most successful character actors of his time in films like “The Candidate,” “Young Frankenstein” and “Monster’s Ball,” then capped his career with a long stint as the meddlesome father on the hit sitcom “Everybody Loves Raymond,” died Tuesday evening in Manhattan. He was 71.

Caught in passing

A plane crashes in New York City. World goes crazy. Not shouts of terrorism, but with shrieks of moonbattery ... it's everywhere. It's insidious. And it is annoying as shit.

This came through an email discussion list, one that (usually) has nothing to do with politics ...

D: I think the US is going to have to learn to live with terrorism as a danger of modern life, rather like we have to live with the possibility of traffic accidents. It isn't going to get stamped out, no matter how many Middle Eastern states Bush takes over - rather its going to get worse.
H: I agree with you, D. It does just make me sad, but maybe it's a first step to growing up and joining the international community (Once Bush is gone of course. If I could help get him impeached I would. His presidency has been a disaster for the US.)

Wow, I must have really been out of it! What country/state did Bush take over?

Another member of this group has the following sig line:
NOTICE: Due to Presidential Executive Orders, the National Security Agency may have read this email without warning, warrant, or notice. They may do this without any judicial or legislative oversight. You have no recourse nor protection except to call for the impeachment of the current President.

One of these days, when I am feeling like picking a fight, I will have to tell him that the president that approved the program that was used to monitor emails already has been impeached. And he is no longer in office. Then I will invoke Inigo Montoya: "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

I keep emphasizing over and over that I am no fan of Bush and his administration. Or politicians in general. But the moment I say anything that can be taken as a defense of Bush, I am automatically tagged as a neo-con warhawk Rethuglican Bushie. Some friends even stop talking to me. I am not a conservative, I am not a liberal. I can't even be rightly termed a centrist, or moderate. Or even a libertarian - but I suppose that would be closest. Except that, on the matter of foreign policy, I am a hawk.

I have been a hawk since November 1979. I was young then, and like to describe myself as a liberal. But as I watched on the nightly news as Islamic radical invaded our sovereign territory, kidnapped our citizens and the president did next to nothing, I would scream at the TV - "Go in and GET THEM! You idiot! Even if they die in the attempt to rescue them, we have to show those crazy assholes that we mean business and will not take crap off a bunch of crazy religious thugs! Launch the rockets NOW!"

But we didn't. And now I can't help but wonder what if ... what if Carter had paid attention to a firebrand 15 year old that just knew that playing nice would get us in deeper doo doo someday?

Then came Reagan. And the hostages were released. But he then turned his attention to the Cold War, to defeating Communism and away from the growing threat in the Middle East. A friend of my father's worked for the DoD back then, and he knew. I paid just enough attention to their cocktail hour chat to learn that the DoD was very, very concerned with the Middle East and why, but Reagan was too focused on the Soviets, East Germans and Poles. I too was more concerned with The Bomb than some crazy radicals.

Throughout the 80s, we suffered one terrorist attack after the other. In 1983, the Beirut embassy was bombed killing 63 people. A few months later, they hit the main gate of the US Marine Corps headquarters with 2500 lbs of explosives and killed 241 US servicemen. Two months later, another truck loaded with explosives blows up in the US Embassy in Kuwait. September 1984 - the US Embassy in Beirut. April 1985 - Madrid. August 1985 - the main gate if the US Air Force Base in Rhein-Main ... 22 killed. That same year, the Achille Lauro was hijacked. One American was singled out, shot as he sat in his wheelchair and then his body dumped into the ocean. TWA Flight 840 in April 1986 and the tragic Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland which killed 259 people. In January 1993 they finally struck within the borders of the US when two CIA agents were shot and killed outside CIA headquarters in Langley, VA. The first strike on the WTC came the following month when a van loaded with explosives was set off in the underground parking garage. Over 1000 were injured, 6 died. June 1996 saw an attack on a US military compound in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, which killed 19 and injured over 500. Shortly after, a coordinated attack was carried out on the US Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania resulting in the loss of 224 lives. October 2000 the USS Cole, docked in Aden, Yemen, was the target of a suicide attack when a small boat exploded next to it killing 17 sailors.

ALL of this, before Bush even took office. But according to some lefties, terrorism is all Bush's fault.

Liberals keep telling us that we need to talk to them, use diplomacy, bargain ... appease. Well, we can see how well that worked out, can't we?

Then came the big one ... September 11, 2001. Bush offered no appeasement, no bargaining, no diplomacy to terrorists or those who harbor them. He went after them, their camps and training grounds ... and put the Taliban regime out of business. He then went after a dictator that had violated every UN resolution put upon him, defiantly threatening the world with WMD, refusing to disarm or prove that he did. And if anyone still wonders why Iraq, why then ... just take a look at a map of the Middle East and locate Iraq, Afghanistan, Israel and Saudi Arabia. What is smack dab in the center of that? Uh huh ... their time is a-comin'. Then there are the discoveries that were made in Baghdad by our Special Forces during the first Gulf War ...

Yes, Bush has screwed up. In my estimation, he has not struck against the Islamofascists hard enough. In trying to spare as many civilian casualties as possible, this war has dragged on and on as we try to quell an insurgency that hides behind women and children, killing them as easily as they do our soldiers. Bush ignored the advice of the generals who could have brought the Iraq war to a much faster, less bloody close. He wanted to win hearts and minds ... at the cost of American military lives.

The raving, mindless hatred of Bush as displayed by liberals, however, is about to get on my last nerve. These are people who are so put out by losing in 2000, they absolutely attack anything and everything Bush does. Everything. They contradict themselves on a regular basis ... when Bush goes to Iraq to spend Thanksgiving with the troops, they scream that it's just a PR stunt and obsess over a plastic turkey. The next year when he doesn't go, they wail and whine that he is ignoring his troops at the holidays!

And the Rovian Conspiracy™ is a real hoot too. Karl Rove is the mastermind behind everything that happens every where in the world. Hurricanes, tsunamis, brush fires, floods ... all plotted and planned by Rove to better the Republican party and/or degrade the Democrats. Rove, all by himself planted the intelligence about the yellow cake in Nigeria with British agents. Rove then somehow got Valerie Plame to arrange to send her husband there to investigate, and he convinced Joe Wilson to lie, thus casting doubt on the integrity of the Bush administration. But that was actually part of a larger plot in which Joe would be caught lying about his findings. Not satisfied with that, Rove then leaked to the press that Plame was Wilson's wife, blamed it on Scooter Libby while ultimately framing Richard Armitage, and somehow wrenching a confession out of him, long after Patrick Fitzgerald had declared Rove innocent and Libby the culprit, despite the fact that Armitage is a foe of the administration. Amazing! Karl Rove is truly a genius!

More recently, Rove exposed one of his own, Republican Congressman Mark Foley, to be a child molester, dontcha know. This, of course, was intended to distract from the "quagmire" in Iraq, their nefarious schemes to torture terrorists and the price of gas. It would be to obvious to expose a Democrat pervert. Then, to take the heat from Foleygate off the administration, Rove somehow arranged for the North Koreans to test a nuclear bomb. The coup de gras ... the airplane crash in New York! Of course! It all makes perfect sense! Incredible scheming and plotting by the most evil and brilliant mind of modern times!

/sarcasm and mockery

I am so tired of the lunacy, the hypocrisy, the dissembling, exaggeration and lies from the left. The love to scream, "Bush lied!" but fail to cite any examples. They excuse and apologize for Islamofascist terrorists, but have no problem insulting our military. They call our interrogation methods "torture" but Saddam's wood chippers and his son's rape rooms get a pass, as do the beheadings, kidnappings and conversions to Islam at gunpoint. The lefties cry that their rights are being violated, yet they say nothing about the women who are stoned to death, girls that undergo genital mutilation and homosexuals that are killed just for being ... if Islamists are doing it, it's perfectly OK to them ... and they have no problem with violating the right of free speech of others, if the other is saying something they disagree with.

Buncha damn crazy-ass hypocrits are going to bring this country down sooner than the terrorists ever could.

Foley: For Comparison

For the record: I firmly believe that Mark Foley is a disgusting creep that shouldn't be trusted around children or young people. He was right to resign, and the House is right to launch an investigation into the matter. As more information comes out, it appears that there is plenty of blame for not reporting this sooner to go around - other House members, Republicans, Democrats, the media, certain bloggers, and even some of the pages themselves. The psuedo-moral superiority being displayed by the Democrats is utterly nauseating. But ... the levels of hystrionics is a bit over the top.

From what we know now, the page involved in the IMs was 3 weeks shy of his 18th birthday. No physical contact took place. The IMs occurred after he left the page program. While there are rumors of other pages being similarly messaged, not one has come forward in the 5 or 10 years being rumored as the time frame of Foley's lechery. Now there is information coming out that the pages involved may have been pranking Foley.

Now, to compare ... my daugher, at age 11, was pushed up against a desk by her teacher as he leaned closely toward her. He swatted her on the butt, and made obvious learing glances at her well-developed chest. When she reported this activity, she was treated as if she were making it all up. It was her word against his. He of course denied it. The school officials gave him a month off with pay. She was left to feel cheap, used and abused. She later had to transfer out of his class because, after he returned, he made her life hell.

Now, five years later, that same teacher has come under scrutiny again, this time for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 16 year old girl. This time, the school has acted decisively and suspended him from teaching duties pending a full investigation. Had they acted on this five years ago, would this have (allegedly) happened to this other girl?

Perspective, please. The uber drama surrounding Foley only serves to cheapen the tragic experiences of kids who have truly been hurt. Think about them before you bray on and on about lecherous cyber-sex. Please.

Some things I just don’t get

Mine is not a political blog ... I rarely comment on world affairs or news. I do not ascribe to any particular political ideology. Some of my opinions lie to the left, some to the right, and there's lots of stuff that I haven't even thought about enough to have any kind of opinion at all one way or another. This is probably why so much of what is going on in the world doesn't seem to make any sense to me.

But I can't help but wonder about some thought processes out there ... like, why is it more important to make sure that the terrorists we have caught are not made uncomfortable and suffer no pain, than saving the lives of the people they want to kill?

Why do we want to afford the Geneva Conventions to those who would never dream of treating our soldiers in accordance? And then why do we want to make the Conventions broader so that the terrorist combatants can be protected by them? I don't get it ...

Why is there foaming-at-the-mouth outrage at Christian efforts to evangelize and spread the word ... but when two kidnapped reporters are forced to convert to Islam at gunpoint, you can hear crickets chirping?

Why is it OK for Democrats to be racist, but not Republicans?

Why the frenzy over revealing the name of Joe Wilson's wife, a CIA employee that was NOT undercover, when it was supposedly Karl Rove that dunnit, then when it turns out that it was Richard Armitage, a stated foe of the current administration, once again, crickets chirp?

And then, when major media outlets disclose classified, secret security agency methods aimed at preventing terrorist attacks, the media is defended against any criticism! Just what is the public's interest in knowing any of that anyway?

Shortly after 9/11, there was much wailing and gnashing of the teeth amid shrieks that the government did not do enough to prevent the attacks. Now that definitive steps are being taken to root out terrorists here in the US, those same voices are shrieking about privacy rights, constitutional rights, spying, yada yada yada.

If Islam is really a religion of peace, and terrorists are really perverting that kind and gentle religion, would that not be considered an insult against Islam? A slur against Mohammed? An offense against all Muslims? So, why aren't Muslims rioting in the streets threatening to behead the terrorists?

Why, after all the bombs, beheadings, kidnappings, killing and slamming planes into buildings, do so many people refuse to believe that these Islamofascist monsters are really, really, serious about killing as many infidels as they can, by whatever means they have and attempt to subjugate the world to Islam? Do these retards think they are just kidding? I bet the same retards believed all that crap about the poor Hezbollah and how they didn't deserve for Israel to bomb the ever-living shit out of them!

And don't get me started on the 9/11 tin-foil hat conspiracy theories ... if anyone tells me they truly believe that shit, I will call them a liar.

Bloglines Freedbacking: Your pinger is STILL broken. Some feeds do not update properly STILL. The blog claim thing is still broken. I would think they would get things fixed before rolling out any new features or "improvements" that are actually quite annoying.

There is a hole in all our hearts ... 'Crocodile Hunter' Irwin Killed by Stingray
Sept. 4, 2006 — Steve Irwin, the hugely popular Australian television personality and conservationist known as the "Crocodile Hunter," was killed Monday by a stingray while filming off the Great Barrier Reef. He was 44.

Irwin was at Batt Reef, off the remote coast of northeastern Queensland state, shooting a segment for a series called "Ocean's Deadliest" when he swam too close to one of the animals, which have a poisonous barb on their tails, his friend and colleague John Stainton said.

"He came on top of the stingray and the stingray's barb went up and into his chest and put a hole into his heart," said Stainton, who was on board Irwin's boat at the time.

Steve Irwin surely will be remembered as an icon of our times. His overflowing enthusiasm and child-like awe inspired renewed interest in the animal kingdom. I just loved watching him interact with the animals ... his love and respect for them knew no bounds. He would exclaim over the beauty of all creatures, even ones that are not really very pretty. He could see their beauty in their perfection just as they are. I would imagine that he would even have respect for the sting-ray that took his life.

We will miss you, Steve. May your heaven be filled with all the creatures you have loved. May strength, peace and grace bless those you have left behind.

UPDATE: I wrote this before perusing the thoughts of others. There is a great deal of argument going on, like over at the Austin Bay Blog ... that Irwin took too many risks, he was "asking for it" and it was bound to happen sooner or later. To those, I say STFU ... life IS a risk. It is a terminal disease with a zero chance of survival. There is no way to live life without risk ... the most dangerous place in the world is one we all visit several times a day, the bathrooms in our homes. We get in our cars and drive ... for those of us under the age of 50, that poses the greatest risk to our lives of all. We eat fatty foods, smoke, drink to much, drive too fast ... and just what does that contribute to the world? At least Steve Irwin risked all for a purpose ... to bring greater awareness to the beauty of God's greatest creatures, and the need to respect and preserve their place in our world. Bill Whittle dropped in his two cents there ... read it here. (And just so you know, I am insanely in love with Bill Whittle!)

I believe Steve Irwin lived this philosophy:
"Life's journey is not about walking sedately into your grave in a perfectly preserved body. Rather you should skid sideways up to the pearly gates, completely skinned up, bruised, scarred and stained, in a worn out body, with a martini in one hand and a gear-shift in the other, shouting "Holy crap! What a ride!!!"

The Face of a Mother’s Grief

This is the face, the demeanor, the character of a woman who has known the greatest loss a mother can ever know ...

imageLadies and Gentleman, I know the imagery of tremendous grief that follows the loss of a child is hard to look upon. This is how one mother has chosen to honor her child, her son ... a war hero who gave his life in the service of his country. A service he chose and took up himself gladly and bravely. This mother has taken his memory, and her loss, and used it to convey a message to the world. What is that message? That the people of the Middle East are not good enough to have freedom and democracy, that they deserve sadistic leaders that torture their citizens and wage war indiscriminately, that heros like her own son are nothing but dupes, that communism and socialism are better than democracy, that despots like Hugo Chavez are respectable ... this message is brought to you by the blood of her son, and heros like him that make it possible for idiots like Cindy Sheehan to loudly disrespect this country and all it stands for without being dragged off to a dank prison somewhere and tortured for the rest of their sorry lives.

This is what Ann Coulter was talking about ... disgusting people who enjoy the death of a loved one, who use the pretense of grief to shout their message to the world, one that is usually anti-American, and claim some kind of moral authority and superiority shields them from those who dispute their views.

Cindy Sheehan in no way, shape or form deserves the title "mother" ... she brings shame to all mothers everywhere. With, perhaps, the exception of the moms of Splodydopes that celebrate their offspring murdering innocents.

Hear Oh, Israel

imageA poem by George Cassutto. An East Tennessee educated fellow originally from Maryland. The child of Holocaust survivors. History teacher. I borrow his words on what may be the Eve of Armageddon. I pray for the people of Israel. May their strength and courage see them through these dark hours. I pray for the good people of Lebanon who are caught in the middle, between mad mullahs and the IDF. I pray for the world.

Hear, Oh Israel
The Lord, our God, the Lord is Love.

The ancient creed falls on deaf ears
on the West Bank.
It's brother against brother in Jerusalem.
Oppression is a table now turned
in Galilee and Gaza.

From the land of milk and honey
flows the blood of militarism.
Zion knows only survival
as she scrawls her newest testament
with the tears of the nationless.

From Babylon's gardens to Hitler's hell
have wandered the children of Abraham
to a land called Armageddon
once fortold by Israel's prophets.

Crushing of Dissent: Six Meat Buffet attacked by the “tolerant” Left

Preston Taylor Holmes, of Six Meat Buffet, posted about the incident in Tampa, FL in which two men boarded a public school bus. Turns out the men are Saudis, but they told many different tales on the whys and wherefores of how and why they came to be on a bus full of school children. The concern over this kind of occurence is not only legitimate, one would have to be lobotomized in this day and age to blow it off as merely a goof-up by two foreigners.

Preston is not known for delicacy in his words. I say good on 'im. The world needs more blunt talk about terrorism and the threat from Islamists. But apparently adherents of the progressive, tolerent, peaceful, loving left ... the bastion of civil rights, particularly freedom of speech ... took it upon themselves to effectively silence Preston by overwhelming the capabilities of his web host to support the massive traffic and hits on the database. He is updating on the situation from his back-up site.

In the meantime, I am re-posting his article here ... I have plenty of server bandwidth, so if the Moonbats wish to try to silence Preston some more, they are welcome to bring it ...

American Beslan
By Preston Taylor Holmes on Islamofascism

Thanks to the Rottweiler for the heads-up on this one.

Two Saudi men board Tampa school bus, (justifiably) make students & driver nervous, now in custody of our inept DHS.

TAMPA - Two Saudi men were arrested Friday after they boarded a school bus and rode to Wharton High School in New Tampa.

Students on the bus became alarmed, as did the bus driver, who called ahead. Hillsborough County sheriff’s deputies met the bus at the school and detained the men. No one was injured and nothing out of line occurred on the bus, deputies said.

Yep. Nothing to see here. Pretty much the same response as the crack security staff at Boston’s Logan Intl Airport. Pay no attention to the towels atop the heads or the box cutters in the pockets of these fine gentlemen.

But never fear, the Saudis are our friends! You know, the kind of friends that slaughter 3,000 of us to glorify their elephant god - or whatever it is they call the mythical being that guides their jihadi slaughter.

What was their excuse for hopping on a school bus for their Beslan dry run? They had several.
“They said they wanted to go to Wharton to look around, and then they said they wanted to go there to have some fun, and then they said they wanted to enroll in the English classes there,” Callaway said.

“We’re not sure if this was a situation of them just being new to this country, or if they were confused or what it was,” Callaway said. “We were unsure as to exactly what the final reason was, but it did cause great concern for the students on the bus and for us. One of the guys was wearing shorts with a black trench coat.”

While on the bus, the men laughed and spoke in Arabic, Callaway said.

Ahmed Bedier, Tampa director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations said the men likely meant no harm and that because “they were from Saudi Arabia, that escalated the situation.”

He blamed the incident on cultural differences.

“They didn’t differentiate between a school bus and public transportation,” he said.

Almanajam and Alsidran at first told deputies they were from Morocco, but later admitted being from Saudi Arabia, deputies said. They said they were enrolled at the English Language Institute at the University of South Florida.

Lucky for them, lying in the pursuit of jihad is fully sanctioned by their so-called holy book, so no foul there.

Even though reports are that these two goat-humpers have had their bail revoked and that they remain in custody, I’m certain that the doormats at the Dept of Homeland Security will let them go as soon as the first phone call comes in from the human debris at CAIR. I can hear the phone ringing now.

If you want a Beslan in America, just keep on telling yourself that there’s nothing to see here. Move along.

UPDATE: Welcome Daily Kock readers! Now cram it so far up your collective asses that blood comes out!

Hmmm ... well, maybe the "goat-humpers" thing was a tad over the line. My inner-12-year-old-boy-child giggled though. But it's still no reason to bring someone's site down. Buncha cowards and losers! The Looney Left can't make a reasoned argument, so like children, they pitch a cyber tantrum. Good job, kids! You've made your (lack of a) point quite well.

IQ Testing, Courtesty of the NSA

This whole NSA "scandal" thing, while annoying as hell, is also useful in a way ... if someone is all hysterical and crapping themselves, thinking the big bad US government is all in their private stuff, I can easily tag them as ignorant at best, or even downright stupid, depending on the speed of the knee-jerk reaction.
