Feed me!

I do believe that I have the crappiest luck EVAR with these dang RSS feeds ... first it was Bloglines, now Google Reader!

Not that I have been posting a whole lot lately ... yeah, you noticed that, eh? But when I do, it seems that some newsreaders are not picking up on my feeds as they should, namely Google Reader and NewsGator. I noticed this with the previous post, the Zombie Yoga one. I use GReader and the post never appeared in there. So, I started checking around ... it was showing up everywhere else that I checked, except NewsGator.

It's kinda hard to pinpoint when this issue started, since there was an almost two week gap between that post and the one before, which did post correctly. But I did upgrade my installation of ExpressionEngine during that time period. I posted in their help forums, but no one else was having the same issue, and no one had any ideas.

In the course of troubleshooting, I tried duplicating the template that creates my RSS feed ... and GReader picked up the feed with the most recent post. Huh, says I. Weird.

I renamed the two feeds so that the new one had the same name as the old, and changed the old one. Then I ran it back through GReader ... Nada. It was picking up the old feed without the newest post. Then I changed the subscription URL leaving off the trailing forward slash ... and it worked! By this point, I was tired of looking at the computer, so I gave it up for the day. Today, we are back onto it.

I have changed the URL in the HEAD tag for RSS auto-discovery to leave off the trailing forward slash. Now I am posting this to see if it picks up ...

In the meantime, check out my Anywhere.FM fav playlist ... take a peak at what kind of music gets my attention, and maybe discover something new! I am really liking Jem, The Shins and Gomez ... check them out! Set up your own Anywhere.FM profile, upload your favorite music and share too!

UPDATE: 6:12pm - still no love from Google. This post has been picked up by every other feedreader that I have checked. I did get a response from their tech support, but they lied to me, saying that something is blocking my feed from them. BS ... nothing changed since they were last able to pick it up, and their own webmaster tools show that they can pull the feed URL with no problems. I had such high hopes for Google Reader too ... disappointing and frustrating!

Thanks, Uncle!

I posted a comment here and almost as an aside, I mentioned that I was thinking about obtaining a defensive weapon for my home and/or person, and that I am open to advice. It was elevated to its own post, with a call to others to share their knowledge. Awesome! Oh, and my site traffic quadrupled for the day ... very cool.

Thanks to all that emailed and commented with suggestions ... keep it coming! I'll be happy to trade knowledge ... wanna learn to knit?

Blogathon LIVE!

Blogathon 2007 Giddyup for STAR has officially started in its live, online, in public venue. Come join us at Bailey's in west Knoxville. The nachos are great! We will be here until at least 9pm when the blogging torch is officially handed over to Barry. I will be providing color commentary and documenting the event with photos. But first, back to those nachos ...
Please consider a donation to the cause ... STAR provides a wonderful service for our very most special folks. Cathy can tell it so much better than I can, so visit Giddyup for STAR to find out more, why you should consider sponsoring the Blogathon and how.

Also, a special shout-out to Tish who is blogging with Mike to aid the Glaucoma Foundation at BlogsWeLuv ... go visit them, too!

imageHere's the first pic from Bailey's ... Mark Steel of Blogitude has joined us and greatly enjoying doing nothing for a time ... there will be more pics as the night proceeds. Join us!

imageThe battery died in my camera, so all the rest of these pics are from the phone ... we'll see how they do ...

Blogathon 2007 is upon us

Just a reminder, folks ... don't forget to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) if you have posted a link on your site about the Giddyup for STAR Blogathon. I meant it when I said that I would increase my pledge by one dollar for every blog that links to them! Also, I will ante up another buck for each pledge as well. Cathy can give me the final head count when it's all over. So come on ... you can give to the cause without touching your wallet, just by posting a link to Giddyup For STAR. But please, consider at least a small donation ... even 5 or 10 dollars is helpful.

The plans for this Blogathon are shaping up quite nicely. The team of writers has grown to 4, with Rich joining Cathy, Doug and Barry in the effort. Also, another Blogfest has been planned in conjunction with the Blogathon ... I suppose so these guys can get out and get a breath of fresh air. Anyway, Rich will be at Bailey's starting at 3:00 going until at least 9:00, when Barry will take over. Everyone is invited to come on out and encourage these guys. Bring your laptop too, if you want! There's free wifi available. More detail is over at Rich's site.

I will be there, maybe studying for finals ... maybe photo blogging ... definitely cheering these guys on. See you there!

BlogFest this weekend!

Once again, East Tennessee bloggers are gathering to share in some good times, good food with good friends. I think, though not entirely sure, that it is this weekend, July 21, starting around 6:00, at Barley's Taproom and Pizzaria in the Old City.

The uncertainty comes from several changes that have been made to the scheduling of this BlogFest ... first it was on the 21st, then tentatively changed to the 28th, then definitely changed to the 28th, then changed to BOTH the 21st and the 28th, and now the 28th is in doubt due to the Blogathon being held that day. But the 21st is still for sure ... I hope.

Whew! And they say women can't make up their minds ... geez! Yer makin' my head hurt, dude ... you're gonna have to make up for that! 😉

Anyway, be there ... let's party, have some fun, eat some good food and enjoy the company of some good people.

Blogathon 2007 - Challenge!

Go now. Sponsor Cathy, Doug and Barry in this year's Blogathon. Their charity is STAR ... and I wish I had more time to promote this for them, or to even participate as well. I am in the final weeks of summer semester and the pressure is on. But! For everyone that puts up a pledge, and for every blog that links to their Blogathon, I will up my pledge by $1. .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) a link to your post and/or screen shot of your pledge receipt page (I will honor your wish to remain anonymous if you want) and I will toss another buck in the pile. C'mon ... make Cathy's day! Now I gotta get back to the books. Ugghh ... stats. Blech!

La Triviata

OK ... everyone else is doing it. Might as well join in the fun ...

WERE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE? My mom was reading a novel shortly before I was born, and one of the characters was named Lissa, and that's where my name supposedly came from. In the book, it is a French derivation of Elizabeth. A word of advice for those who will be naming babies - do NOT curse your child with an unusual or unique name. They will curse YOUR name for the rest of their lives. Seriously. Don't do it. It's annoying to have to constantly explain, correct and/or spell your name all the dang time.

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CRIED? Mother's Day - don't ask

DO YOU LIKE YOUR HANDWRITING? Yeah. It's rather unique. Sometimes it's even legible.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LUNCH MEAT? I don't like processed lunch meat, like bologna, I prefer sliced ham or turkey

DO YOU HAVE KIDS? My DNA has been propagated three times. Scary, yes I know.

IF YOU WERE ANOTHER PERSON, WOULD YOU BE FRIENDS WITH YOU? Yes, if only to have someone to point and laugh at.

DO YOU USE SARCASM A LOT? Who me? Sarcastic? Naw!

DO YOU STILL HAVE YOUR TONSILS? Yup, and an immune system that can take on a platoon of Marines.

WOULD YOU BUNGEE JUMP? You couldn't get me to the ledge to jump.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CEREAL? None. My breakfast is usually a liquid of the caffeinated variety. Fav coffee? Gevalia ... no doubt. Or Dunkin Donuts coffee.

DO YOU UNTIE YOUR SHOES WHEN YOU TAKE THEM OFF? My shoes don't have ties. If I can't just kick them off, like slides, flip-flops or clogs, I don't wear them. In fact, I would prefer to not wear shoes at all.

DO YOU THINK YOU ARE STRONG? 5 feet tall and bullet proof, baby! Actually it's 5'1" but that doesn't sound the same

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ICE CREAM? Yes. All of them. Lately, Breyers Fried Ice Cream. Also Dark Chocolate Raspberry Swirl. And Death by Chocolate which Kroger now carries in a low fat version!

RED OR PINK? Purple.

WHAT IS THE LEAST FAVORITE THING ABOUT YOURSELF? My tendency to procrastinate ... I will elaborate on this later.

WHO DO YOU MISS THE MOST? My Ex. But my aim is improving.

WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW? A bunch of whiny-assed, crybaby IT analysts.

FAVORITE SMELLS? The top of a baby's head, newly mowed grass, laundry fresh from the dryer, baking chocolate chip cookies, Thanksgiving dinner.

WHO WAS THE LAST PERSON YOU TALKED TO ON THE PHONE? An overly arrogant Sys Admin that forgot his Exchange server password. His new password is now imadumas ... heh.

HAIR COLOR[S]? Dark auburn

EYE COLOR? Blue, gray or green ... depending on my mood.

DO YOU WEAR CONTACTS? No, I keep them in my address book

FAVORITE FOOD? Shrimp. It is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it ... shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo, pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried, there's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. Th-that's about it."

SCARY MOVIES OR HAPPY ENDINGS? Scary movies with happy endings. I think Freddy Meets Shrek would be an awesome flick. Or Underdog vs The Transformers. (Ha! )

LAST MOVIE YOU WATCHED? The Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

WHAT COLOR SHIRT ARE YOU WEARING? I'm supposed to wear a shirt here?

HUGS OR KISSES? Long, slow, sweet, toe curling, knee weakening, breath-taking, skin-tingling, oh my God I just saw heaven, soul-cleaving, leave me gasping, hold me tight cause I'm surely falling, kisses that last all week.

Yeah. That'll do ...

FAVORITE DESSERT? Anything Chocolate.

MOST LIKELY TO RESPOND? Is there anyone left that hasn't already?

LEAST LIKELY TO RESPOND? Dude used to go by the name of Bubba.

WHAT BOOK ARE YOU READING NOW? Dark Tower IV: Wizard and Glass ... and college text books.

WHAT IS ON YOUR MOUSE PAD? Umm ... a mouse?

WHAT DID YOU WATCH ON TV LAST NIGHT? My cat. But I shooed her off.

WHAT IS THE FARTHEST YOU HAVE BEEN FROM HOME? While living in Tennessee, when we went back to San Diego for a visit, but I consider that my home too. So maybe Florida?

Now, that's probably more than anyone ever wanted to know about me.

Once again, East Tennessee bloggers will emerge from behind their computers and venture into the light of day to gather together ... and blog some more! Food, fun and friends ... what more does anyone need?

Here's the low-down on the dealio -

WHEN: Saturday, June 9
WHERE: Bailey's in West Knoxville.

This is a nice, relaxed casual place suitable for bringing kids, at least until 9:00 or so. Then the college-age folks come in to whoop it up a little. But even then, it's pretty mellow. They do have free wifi, so bring the lappie and live-blog the gathering!

I am throwing down a special invite to my fellow Oak Ridge bloggers - that means YOU AtomicTumor, Daco, Netmom, Bos and Eaves - as well as your legion of followers and readers. (And if you are an Oak Ridge blogger and I did not name you specifically, much apologies - let me know and I will throw you a link) I know ya'll are a bunch of party animals and would really have a great time.

Please come even if you just read blogs! That means YOU, Terry ... and Roske, you still lurking out there? I'm hoping a few others that have talked about coming but still have not showed will finally make it ... yeah, you Preston! And Serr8D. And Number 9.

Let me know here if you will make it, or hop over to our BlogFest host's site and RSVP there. Cross post this at your site too! Get the word out!

(And I promise not to have a near-meltdown the day before ... I hope!)

I am not alone!

Coming attractions ... a new Bill Whittle essay is on the way! Great joy and glad tidings!

Bill is truly one of the great writers of our times. He has a gift with words and can get his point across with a combination of humor, dark sarcasm and logic that leaves one breathless and in awe. Truly amazing and inspiring. I read and think, "Yeah! That's exactly what I was thinking!" but I am unable to come up with the words to convey in anywhere near the same manner.

He is also getting ready to publish the second edition of "Silent America" which will include a couple of his more recent essays. I missed out on this the first go 'round, but I plan to make this tops for Christmas gift giving this year.

Now I must go fill this vast expanse of free time with something nice and mundane ... until Bill hits that publish button, that is.
