Shoe me the way

Nice Shoes!

I swear ... what IS it with women and shoes? We are obsessed ... either we love them madly, or despite them greatly. Must be comfy, must be pretty, must be versatile ... with the occasional exception of the shoes meant for one particular outfit. Must have matching handbag and belt.

I go shoe shopping when I want to torture myself. The ONE part of my body that is not affected by weight gain or loss ... and I have friggin' duck feet! Right across the ball of my foot, I am extra wide. Wide-width combined with pretty shoes just does not happen every day. But there have been those rare miracles.

So I set out to find the perfect pair of shoes ... ones that will go with my everyday black casual twill pants, as well as with the yummy faux-moleskin skirt I just got. If they go well with jeans too ... HOME RUN! Triple play! A day to celebrate indeed!

This was not my time though ... the perfect shoe eluded me once again. However, in one of the stores I shopped at, I got a special 25% off coupon. This store is a little different ... Shoe Carnival, where shoe shopping is FUN! Uh huh ... Anyway, about every hour they hold a little event or contest and they give away discounts determined by the winner spinning the Wheel of Savings. While I was there, they had a contest for who had the heaviest purse. The ladies lined up for the weigh in. I was stuck a few rows back trying to cram my fat-assed feet into yet another pair of sexy, but way-too-narrow slides. I queued up at the end of the line to watch the action. The first contestant weighed in at 3 and a half pounds. Then there was 4 ... 4 and half, everyone was hitting these poundages, more or less. Then it was my turn. I handed my purse over ... a whopping 5, yes FIVE and one-quarter pounds! (Thanks to two wallets, a cell phone, a Palm Pilot with a modem, a tire gauge, tons of make-up and various and sundry pens, pins, quarters and God-knows-what-else)

And I had just cleaned that sucker out that morning .... go figure.

Mistress of My Domain

Oh ... Really?

Yes ... Really. The domain name change is underway. I was just notified by my web host that my new domain LissaKay.com has been set up and the DNS propagation should take about 24-48 hours.

So, if you have a link to me on your site, change "caiobaby" to "lissakay" ... no rush though. Both domains will point to the same page for a while. Also update my email address if you have it saved in your address book!

Boobie-Thon!

Next spring, I will be 40 years old. Damn ... how the hell did I become an old broad already? Not only do I get to "celebrate" this decade milestone ... the Big 4-0 ... officially "Over the Hill" ... I get to start my annual smashing of the boobs. Yes, folks ... that lovely ritual called the mammogram.

I had one done 5 years ago, to set a baseline. So it won't be like a total surprise. But lemme tell ya ... it ain't my first choice in activities. It's not quite as fun as a Pap smear ... a little less undignified. At least you get to keep your pants on. And no one will know that you didn't shave your legs. But holy shit ... you'd think they'd at least warm up the damn thing they smash your boobs with!

I was blessed (cursed?) with smallish boobies. But they did their job, feeding my three babies. As sweater decorations, they were barely adequate, but at this stage of my life, I am just grateful they are still strangers with my belly button. The men folks that I allowed to get intimate with them had no complaints ... more than a mouthful is a waste, they would say. Heh ... right. Whatever.

So now it's time to take care of them, to make sure they stay healthy in their retirement. So they will get their own check-up every year, along with my cervix ... and the rest of my parts and pieces.

Today kicks off the first day of the Second Annual Blogger Boobie-Thon. Go check out the news and happenings, see the boobie pics that have been submitted (Rated PG-13), make a donation!!! There's rumor of full frontal boobie pics for download for donors of $50 or more. Grab a button for your web site to link back. And if your boobies are as old as mine, call your doctor and schedule a mammogram.

Couple faces deportation without their child

Chinese couple might lose child
Problems mount in difficult case

By Woody Baird,
The Associated Press Writer
August 20, 2003

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A world away from his home in China and accused of sexual assault, Shaoqiang He made two key decisions.

He ignored legal advice to plea bargain and demanded a jury trial. And when his first child was born with the trial still pending, He and the girl's mother put the baby in foster care because the criminal charge had left them broke and unable to care for her.

The jury trial gamble paid off: He was acquitted in February. But He and wife, Qin Luo, still can't get daughter Anna Mae back -- and now they're facing possible deportation and the chance of losing her forever.

======================

This story has just made me ill. Where is the justice? Where is the humanity??? Why can't the judge just get his act together and make a ruling! It almost seems as if he does not want to make the ruling and is delaying the matter to force the deportation of Shaoqiang and Qin before he has to decide!

Furry fun stuff

Royal Canin Feline Breed Nutrition Maine Coon 31 Formula Cat Food

How cool is this? Cat food formulated for specific breeds. Maine Coons have certain health concerns such as hip dysplasia and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. They also tend to have sensitive tummies. My big guy, Dakota, gets bloody diarrhea if his food doesn't agree with him. I have to buy the expensive stuff from PetSmart to keep this from happening. I wonder how expensive this Royal Canin stuff is. They don't list prices on their site ... if you have to ask, you can't afford it???

A fly got into the house tonight. They are almost beside themselves trying to get the little bugger. It lands high up on a wall or the ceiling and they sit and scream at it, tails twitching. I keep telling them that flies don't understand kitty speak and it doesn't know they want it to come down and play.

Faith just now almost got it ... she went hopping across the room on her hind legs trying to catch it with her front paws. I swear Dakota rolled his eyes.

I think the fly is now a "walk" ... it's on the floor wiggling around and both cats are staring at it intently, every now and then one of them will tap it with a paw. Yep ... it's a goner. Man, you just can't buy entertainment like this!

Now they are here for scritches and belly rubs ... I swear, how did these cats get so spoiled???

This project is taking on a life of its own, thanks to the blogging community. Chief Wiggles posted about an encounter he had with an Iraqi child in the above linked blog. The entry is quite lengthy, so I have copied the relevant part of it in the Extended Entry (click the link below to expand). Please read it, then visit Chief Wiggles blog for suggestions and ground rules. Our efforts will be helping to shape the young minds of the future generation of Iraq.
