Why is law so shrouded in secrecy?
What is the most common answer given when one has a question of a legal nature? Consult an attorney.Da hell wit dat, peoples! Have you checked lately to see how much these sharks charge you for 15 minutes of their time? And that's only if you purchase it in lots of at least 5 hours by retaining them at $250 and up per? WTF is up with this?
No other profession guards their information so closely as lawyers. None. It is the most absurd thing I have ever seen!
Medical information is available everywhere ... sure, there are disclaimers that one should consult their own physician. But you can get pharmacological information, access to medical journal articles, even get a reasonable idea of what your symptoms mean on the internet and at libraries. Indeed, if you do need to call and ask your doctor's advice, you don't have to pay him or her $250 per hour or each fraction thereof just to get a question answered.
Computer technicians, insurance agents, auto mechanics, chefs, musicians ... all share information about their specialty gladly. So what's the big secret with legal information? Do they believe the common lay person is too stupid to understand? Do they fear that with knowledge, people won't need them and they'll have to go out and earn an honest living? Do they think that by keeping us ignorant that makes them somehow superior?
Then add to that, they treat us little people like shit stuck to the bottom of their Italian leather shoes!
There is NO justice in our so-called justice system. None. What. So. Ever. It's a game for these lawyer people, to see how much they can fuck with us, destroy our lives and make us dance like puppets on a string. That includes judges ... who are just lawyers that have gotten too big for their britches. They have NO mercy at all. It's almost as if they enjoy seeing people in pain and agony.
And they get paid an obscene amount of money to do so.
I have been trying for two weeks now to try to straighten out my son's latest legal mess. His probation counselor, the bitch that got us into this attorney mess, will not return my calls. Her supervisor will not either. I tried to call the PD we had before, but there's nothing he can do, not being a retained or appointed attorney. I can't get a hold of his previous probation counselor, the wonderful Stacy who helped us to no end.
I tried posting on these so-called legal advice message boards, but that was worse than useless. All I got was judgmental responses and no usable information. One suggested that I file a motion with the court to stay the appointment of the attorney. OK, so I called the court clerk to do so ... I was told, I need to hire an attorney to do that! (Remember FerrisBueller ? When they total Cameron's dad's Ferrari and Cameron lets loose with that primal scream? Yeah ... insert one of those here)
Our courts are a joke. They are not there for justice. They are their for these attorneys to get their jollies by fucking around with people's lives. My brother's murderer was jailed for a year. A YEAR. And 8 months of that was for a felony cocaine possession charge. Justice? Yeah right. I have a friend who is a good mommy, a good person, but cannot see her children because her ex had more money to hire attorneys for longer than she, so he won custody and the right to cut her off from them, while forcing her to give him a third of her paycheck. I've been there done that too. No mercy.
Check bouncers spend more time behind bars than rapists. Don't get me started on how rape victims are treated! It's scarcely different now than it was 30 years ago ... only chastely dressed virgins can be raped, and even then, she must have done something to make the poor fellow lose control of himself.
I could go on, but my blood pressure is about to max out ... does anyone out there have any ideas on what I can do about this damned court appointed attorney that I am being forced to pay for? Please help! Anyone?

Sorry, the first link didn't come out right. I don't know why. It was the google link, that might have something to do with it. The real link, without the google highlights, is:

I just looked it up online, and it seems to be something that is up to each state. For instance, in Alabama, it seems that if a lawyer is appointed by the court system to defend an indignant (someone who cannot paid), they are not allowed to accept any type of payment, either from the person they are defending, or someone acting on the defendant's behalf. Yet, in Utah, the Utah Supreme Court ruled that an attorney who is appointed by the courts to represent someone is entitled to be paid, regardless of the financial situation of the person they are appointed to, and if the person does not pay, it is considered taking of the attorney's property.
Here's the link for the Utah thing: http://www.utahbar.org/rules_ops_pols/ethics_opinions/op_107.html+decline+court+appointed+attorney+tennessee+fee&hl=en
Here's the link for the Alabama thing:

Maybe if you contacted the State's Bar office? The Alabama link is for their bar association. Maybe someone in your state's Bar association can point you in the right direction?
