Oh ... Really?

Pounding the Cyber-Pavement

Well. This sucks. I am unemployed. Without getting into a long, drawn out explanation ... suffice it to say that corporations will always put the bottom line first. The little people, like me, are just little parts of the big money making machine. Due to my company buying another, a hurricane, a company cutting losses to maximize profit and minimize loss, another company buy out and limits of technology and resources ... my job and that of a couple dozen others here was cut. Now the job search is on.

I've been in the insurance business for almost three years this time. I know now that I really do not care for this business. I would really like to get back on track for techie/computer type work. That's where I was three years ago, gaining experience and furthering my knowledge. I do not have any formal education in computers ... I took one computer class back in 1992, it was in DOS and we learned some basics of Word, dBase 123 and Lotus. Ancient history, eh? Everything I have learned since then has been self-taught.

I have been building and maintaining my computers myself for the last 7 years. I have a LAN network set up to connect my three computers, two are connected wireless. I can install and configure software ... operating systems, security software, Office, and all sorts of other applications. I have also taught myself HTML and CSS ... I designed this site myself, including the graphic up top, which started out as a desktop wallpaper. I code web pages according the W3 Consortium standards, and I strive to write valid code as much as humanly possible. I can use Dreamweaver and Frontpage, but I prefer TopStyle Pro and plain old text editors. I am proficient with PhotoShop and PaintShop Pro. I have also used Fireworks and SWiSH. I am in no way intimidated by learning new skills. In fact, I relish the challenge and usually meet it with great gusto.

I have a brain that will blow you away. Seriously ... I amaze even myself sometimes at my ability to figure things out. I learn with amazing speed and retain new knowledge easily. I have a great aptitude for problem solving and troubleshooting. If something needs a work-around, I will find it. I can also teach and train, and very much enjoy watching others learn.

I am looking for a position that is computer technology related ... top choice would be a web design assistant, which could work into a primary web designer job after I gained some years of experience, and perhaps some formal classes or training. Internal help desk or desktop support would also be in at the top of my list of desired jobs.

So ... if you know of a job that I could fit into here in the Knoxville area, please hit the contact button up there and drop me a line.

I'll keep you in mind and let you know as I hear about opportunities. Perhaps I can throw you some referrals if you do freelance.
