Oh ... Really?

Nothing ever changes, really

I shouldn't be surprised, really, that mental health issues still carry such a huge stigma. I have been living in this hellish world long enough to realize that most people just don't want to deal with mental illness, even from a distance.

It's sad, really ... because the family members of those with mental health issues need love, support and companionship even more. Instead, we are treated as if we carry the plague. I should have remembered that before I posted about our latest adventure in Bipolarville.

It's not contagious, people! Really!

God bless those of you that have called, written and offered help and support ... you know who you are, and you know I love you!

Oh, and in case anyone is wondering ... I did have myself a nice little birthday despite everything. Saturday, I went to a yoga class, and then went and got my hair done, my nails done, did a little shopping. I made a yummy fruit salad to have with my yummy roasted chicken supper which I ate after painting my toenails. I upgraded my computer, aced two quizzes and then soaked in a long hot bath. Sunday, I had a nice lunch with my parents and then went and fixed their computer (finally got them off of teh evils AOLz!) My kids were at peace, my cats were at peace, I was at peace. It's all good.

Ahhh, but last week was a nightmare, for everyone it seems...I had plans to reply to your post, then...things happened...

Your encounter with a muscle-minded tank brain employed as staff at a healthcare provider illustrates the poor training they've received. This provider, who threw a punch, would be better suited at a county lockup, either as an inmate or a guard.

Of course, they should have known that a bipolar patient was in the house, and used their training to deal with him. A good friend has a grown child with ADD/Bipolar, and when 'new' people come into his life she prepares them immediately for potential problems, so as to 'break the ice'. That might seem cruel, but it does work, especially when people today seem more ready to throw down than understand and relate.

So, hang in there, and good luck with whatever course you do decide to pursue. Remember, though, if you reinforce his behavior with support (even justified) it might tempt him to repeat said behavior.

held38 I guess you lucky the 'guard' didn't...

Aww, you're just too sweet, you know that? Considering that we made cyber-aquaintance when I ripped you a new one, and then pointed out a major photo faux pas. And now you stop by and make a heart-felt post filled with awesome wisdom while you are dealing with major Life Stuff™ yourself.

The target(s) of my snark here are those who are fair weather friends. The ones that come around, call and offer invites when all is going good, but scatter like roaches when one of my kids is having problems ... and lately, there's been plenty. (Insert general rant about their piece of shit, immature, self-absorbed, pussy-whipped sperm donor and his sociopath <strike>witch</strike> wife here for all the abusive damage they are causing to these children).

Anyway, I have you and your family in prayer. I hope your dad continues to get better ... he sounds like a tough one!

Well, we appreciate that, and know that [name of fine Knoxville-area Hospital omitted, you know, to prevent issues] is one excellent provider. I'm glad he's in there, given the results...

Ha! Suprising you mention that earlier mess...I've some update. I exchanged a couple of emails with RN, and offered to pull down that infamous page (to keep the Google thing in context) if he would only admit he could have handled the thing better, himself. No, he's got his pride, obviously, and it's a Giant Thing. So, I get a few hits from google searches for KV, Be it.

You call that little tap you set on me a rip? I'm armor-plated; comes with the territory I suppose...not that I wouldn't duck if I knew it was coming...

;D
