Oh ... Really?

I am a Nationalist

I am a Nationalist

by Saber11

=============
I believe in America.
I believe in the values America has stood for.
I believe these values worth fighting for and defending.

I believe in god.
I believe you have the right to believe in god or not to.
I believe free people should be able to practice their religion without imposing their will upon others, but without distorting traditions and the integrity behind those traditions.

I am not a conservative. Conservativism has lost it's meaning to me.
I believe in the death penalty, the right to keep and bear arms, and the preservation of family, and that less government is better government.

I am not a liberal. Liberalism has lost it's meaning to me.
I believe we need to protect American jobs and workers, we need a national health care system that works, and we need to help people help themselves.
I believe what you do in your bedroom is your own business.
I believe a woman can decide what she should do with her own body.

I felt angry at 911.
Angry at the terrorists.
Angry my government wasn't able to prevent it.

I believe Ronald Reagan was a great President.
I believe Bill Clinton was an embarrassment.
I believe George W. Bush is no Ronald Reagan.
I believe John Kerry is not the answer either.

I believe that beliefs can be wrong.
I believe that simple sentences can be disingenuous.
I believe that declarations are excellent at stirring passions, but fail at solving problems.

I believe that Nationalism is no different than Tribalism, Ethnocentrism, or My-Team-Is-Better-Than-Your-Team-ism. It's usually fanaticism without risk at best and whips itself into fascism at worst.

I believe statements like "the drug war can be won" are hollow without the next sentence about how and why they can be won.

I believe that having the right country name on my passport doesn't give me special powers to discern right from wrong or the divine right to command others.

I believe beliefs by themselves are not enough.

I am proud to be an American because America usually does great, noble things.

I am not proud to be an American when we do not.

I believe that the person who wrote this has the right to believe all of these things and I'd die to protect his or her right to voice those beliefs, but I still want to sit down with them and ask why and question whatever facts they have about each and every thing they wrote here - even if I agree with what they said.

I am a thinker.
