Oh ... Really?

Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt and Blogging

On May 18, Mena of SixApart, founder of MovableType posted a request for MT bloggers to post an entry on their blog, with a TrackBack to the SixLog post giving examples of how MT was being used and how the new licensing scheme adversely affects us.
I did so. And my TrackBack is but one of over 200, so far. One of the statements I made was:
With EE, I am free, and always will be free, to create as many blogs and have as many authors as I wish.

That entry received a comment from Anil Dash, also of SixApart. He quoted that statement and then said:
That's the first I've heard that... have they committed to that publicly?

Venusion took that question to the pMachine/ExpressionEngine forum. Rick Ellis, one of the EE developers, replied:
Oh please. They're resorting to FUD now?

No, we will never impose any limitations on our system. That kind of licensing model is terrible.

Thank you, Venusion and thank you Rick. Naughty me for not staying on top of this ... we just underwent an ISP change at the house and my blogging life was kinda put on hold.

And shame on you, Anil! Mena put up that post asking for feedback. Innocent, trusting little bloggers that we are, we responded. So, you didn't like MY choice to change blogging tools. You didn't like my criticism of what SixApart did with MT. Get over it, OK? Making comments like that only serves to further confirm that I made the right choice in switching over to ExpressionEngine. And I am not alone in that feeling. Live and learn, SixApart ... live and learn.

I know you're upset, but is this the best way to deal with it? It seems to me they're all good people, just trying to make a living... why spread gossip that will just make people mad at each other?

Upset? Me? LOL! I'm happy as can be now ... with EE!

Who's gossiping? I merely brought together statements made by various parties into one post.

Sure, SixApart has the right to make a living ... just as I have a right to voice my displeasure at how they have used the blogging community to do so.

I have been enjoying getting to know EE too. It's a great piece of software.
Best wishes,

EE Bug Fixes:
The following bugs in the EE Version 1.0 have been fixed Optimized the comment display function for better performance on large databases. Fixed trackback URL tag so that it recognizes the URL title rather than only the numeric ID Plugin manager was showing a list of all files in the plugin folder rather than only ones that are plugins Added the following missing date localization variable: %G Comment notifications sent to admins now use the replyto address of the person commenting. Fixed some typos.……

Spreading gossip is when one speaks untruths. Lissa isn't speaking any untruths - it is absolute fact she responded to a request for a logical explanation of why she switched and had a problem with the licensing, and it's absolute fact that Anil replied with what he did.

And its a fact that the pMachine folks have always had unlimited authors and unlimited weblogs in their pay products, first pMachine and now ExpressionEngine. I get dizzy just reading the how/what/when/why/where/how stuff of the new MT licensing...

I don't understand the hullaboo of either side of this deal. We all have choices. They have choices, you have choices. Uh, so we make our choices accordingly. WTF is any discussion about?

That's what I was wondering, Sharon ... why the hell Anil Dash felt it necessary to make that comment ... to make me doubt my choice or something? It was a cheap shot ...

Hey now, what if Anil just *hadn't* heard of the pricing before, and wanted to see if they had committed to it publicly, wondering what another business had chosen. After all, they have pretty much admitted they made a pricing mistake. Don't get all JFK on us. It's just bloggers, it's just hte web, it's just some people wanted to put food on the table and getting the model wrong 'cause they are naive kids. Switch software, sure, but don't paint them as the devil.

Dude, I'm still confused about this whole "MT PEOPLE ARE EVIL!!" crap that's suddenly sprung up. Is this turning into a PC vs MAC type thing?

If so, call me Sweden, because I like 'em both - but I ain't paying smile

I switched to wordpress, not because of the new licensing agreement, it wouldn't have affected me, I don't have a hell of a lot of blogs and you know how long it takes me to upgrade anyway.

I switched because I really started to hate the rebuilds. At this point wordpress works for me.

I have to say, the rebuilds are killing me. My blog (which is still in hiding because I'm testing stuff out) is over 500 posts, and it takes forever to rebuild. I hate the rebuilding.
