This is a party I will skip

Pardon me as I make my exit from this party, I really don't wish to participate in a celebration of death.

Life is precious, whether it is an inconvenient fetus, a precious and welcomed child, a Godly and righteous Christian, a lost atheist or a global terrorist. We are all the same in God's eyes.

Now don't get me wrong, I am as angry over the atrocities of 9/11 as anyone else, as well as all the other terror attacks perpetrated by these savages. I am as harsh of a critic on Islam as anyone could ever be. I do believe that Osama Bin Laden was the mastermind and chief architect of 9/11 and bears full responsibility for the deaths, injury and damage he and his cohorts inflicted upon all of us - that is, the entire civilized world. And I believe that Islam is the antithesis of Christianity, and is evil through and through.

But as a Christian, I cannot and will not celebrate the death of anyone, especially not with the jubilant joy that is on display in the streets of America. To me, it is every bit as ghoulish as the Palestinians that handed out sweets after the murder of an Israeli family, killed while sleeping in their beds, all of them, including a 3 month old baby.

Celebrating death is not something civilized people do. Not even when it is justified and well-deserved. Yes, it is a good thing that he can no longer perpetrate evil in this world and cause further death and misery to those he deems his enemy. I do understand the dangers with capturing and imprisoning him. But killing him will change what exactly? Al Qaida will carry on, doing their evil in the world. A new leader will step up eventually and take the reins. If anything, Bin Laden's death will breathe new life into the fervor and rage of the Islamists around the globe.

Shortly after I first heard the news, I saw a post on Facebook from a pastor whom I greatly admire. He said, "Remember Beloved, God has no pleasure in the death of the wicked. Ezekiel 18:23." and "Harsh, godless responses to UBL's death are easy, not appropriate, natural, not spiritual. Watch your heart and tongue Christian."

Ezekial 18:23 reads: Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked, declares the Lord GOD, and not rather that he should turn from his way and live?

Thank you, Pastor Steve, for helping me put to rest the conflict in my heart and to face this with a Christian attitude.

On the way to work today, I listened to K-Love, a Christian radio station. Many callers were sharing their thoughts. This one struck me, and I posted it to my Facebook wall:

Only one man's death ever changed the world, and we celebrated that a week ago.

"For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!" --Romans 5:17

And this:

“Though I celebrate the fact that Osama bin Laden will never commit another act of terror, never bomb another embassy, never give another hate speech, never blow up another building, never train another terrorist, never hijack another plane, never take another innocent life, I refuse to celebrate his death, for to do so would be to embrace the same hatred that fueled these heinous acts.” ~Randy R. Reed©

In God's eyes, each one of us is both as righteous and as wicked as the next. We are all sinners, we all fall short of the glory. The difference between those who will see the Kingdom of Heaven and those who will not is not God's esteem for us, for he has offered each and every one of us the same gift of salvation, but that each of us has made the choice to follow Christ and be saved, or not and be condemned for eternity.

We should never, ever celebrate what is surely a lost soul being condemned to the fires of Hell. Over and over, the Scriptures tell us that judgment of sin is for God, and God alone.

[10] Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God; [11] for it is written,

“As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me,
and every tongue shall confess to God.”

[12] So then each of us will give an account of himself to God.

(Romans 14:10-12 ESV)

Today, instead, my thoughts and prayers are with the people recently affected by the tornadoes and thunderstorms that tore through the South last week, and with the people of Nashville, who suffered horrific floods one year ago today, and as always, with those around the world suffering poverty, cruelty and terror.

God is in control, and His Will be done.
Amen.

My latest support nightmare

Does everyone else have the same nightmares with technical support? Or am I overly picky because that is what I do? Is it too much to expect that, even if the answer is not there, the tech support people will leave the rudeness out of it??? And at least give the pretense of trying to help?

I am still dealing with the issue with my RSS and Atom feeds not updating in Google Reader (and only Google Reader!) Google continues to deny that it is their problem. My web host has looked at absolutely everything, even going so far as to take down the entire server firewall to prove to Google that they are not being blocked by the server. Still no joy ... at all. And to think that I heartily recommended Google Reader to many, many people. No more. Use anything else that works for you ... avoid Google Reader! Bloglines Beta is looking good.

Now to the latest. When I was preparing to update my system to run Windows Vista, I researched to find a graphics card that would work and not break my budget. I ended up with the Sapphire Atlantis Radeon 9600 Pro. I sure would have liked to go with a PCI-Express card, but that would require a new motherboard, which would in turn require a new CPU. Might as well just build a whole new system at that point, which I did just about two years ago. What I have now suits me fine for what I use it for. I have no need for the latest and greatest in hardware.

So, I installed the card, formatted and installed Vista and all was good. Then I decided to install Nero on the desktop. I had it on the laptop (WinXP) and all was good there. And even on the desktop, it mostly worked ... for video editing, DVD copying and writing - the stuff that I originally got it for. Then I tried playing a DVD. Before Vista, I had an install of PowerDVD that came with the DVD drive. But it was an OEM version and there was no upgrade for Vista. I would have had to purchase the full version. As soon as the DVD loaded and started up, Nero Show Time came up - and promptly crashed.

I wrote to Nero tech support. They analyzed a report generated by their tool on my machine, and they said that I should upgrade my graphics card drivers. Alrighty then. I went to the ATI support page, found the driver indicated for this card for Vista listed right there. Cool ... Nero would then play DVDs. It also resolved some other minor but annoying glitches I had noticed.

But then I had no Vista Aero display. Or transparency. Or other visual effects. Not earth-shattering, but when I buy something, I want it to work as intended. I do not wish to compromise - give up one thing to get another. At least not until every possibility has been explored.

So, I open a ticket with Sapphire tech support. I explained what happened and sent it in. Here is the response I got: (copied as is, spelling and grammar and all)

Well you have to know R9600 is not the top of the line graphics card, infact its a serveral generation back from the current HD series, so i wouldnt expect too much from this card especially when you are running it under Vista. I would suggest you upgrade to at least X1650 or higher to help you get the type of performace you want for your computer, if you have other questions please get back with us at tech@althonmicro.com.

To post a response please go to the link below.

Thank You
Sapphire Tech Support

I am simply gobsmacked by this! The rudeness is simply uncalled for, and it goes far beyond being unhelpful. Just to make sure I was not mistaken about the card being supported in Vista, I reviewed both the Sapphire and ATI sites. I found the same drivers linked from both, with no dire warnings of any kind that indicated that there could be problems. I researched for quite a while longer, and finally found on some obscure site, some other hapless Vista user with the same card having the same problem. There was never any indication of a resolution but he left off stating that he was going to try a previous version of the driver, and there was no further follow up from him. But there was another post from someone else stating that AGP cards are not compatible with the latest four driver versions on Vista machines. How lovely. They still list them as being compatible on the site, with no warnings or anything!

So, given my current financial situation, I have to find a solution to use with this card. I will try to hunt these older drivers down and try installing them. But I fully intend to return to using Nvidia chip based cards as soon as I can!

UPDATE: A user at DSLReports.com just linked me to a possible solution! How hard was that? Not very ... but most helpful! Tech support should pay attention!

Just lock ‘em up

This is why we are losing our kids...

If there is any money to be raised, then it ought to go towards building a juvenile detention system for these severely mentally ill individuals, they should have been hospitalized, incarcerated, locked down!

That's also the same kind of incredibly screwed up thinking that engendered my rage at certain extremely ignorant individuals in that forum. One chick wants to isolate kids with mental illnesses and disorders in our schools, not even giving them a chance to get along with and integrate with the rest of the kids. Oh no! We can't have that! It might disturb little Johnny to see someone who isn't "normal" ... who sometimes behaves differently. But this does not apply to kids with other physical disorders, like diabetes. She says it's not the same ... Well, do tell me, Ms Brilliant ... just how the hell is a disordered brain any damn different than a disordered pancreas? Is there some kind of priority system based on which organ is affected? Screwed up heart? That's OK. Cancer? Fine and dandy. Need a wheelchair? We'll build some ramps! Oh ... it's the brain that's misfiring? Get outta here! We don't want none of that around here!

The dude in the post above ... he says just lock them all up. Never mind treatment ...medication is just a crutch for the weak and lazy. The only thing I agree with is that parents have to be responsible for their kids ... but get them treatment, give them every chance to be a part of society. It takes a lot of effort, it takes 24/7 vigilence, it takes a lot of love. But he won't even give them that ... just lock them up, throw them away, they are imperfect and therefore they don't deserve a place in our society, and it's all the parents' fault.

That is the kind of messed up thinking that has kept research and availability of treatment for mental health issues just barely available. These kind of people make me sick. Maybe THEY should be locked up ...

</rant>

BTW, you idiots ... do some research. You don't even have to look very far. Columbine didn't happen because those boys were bullied. Harris was a psychopath, Kiebold was suicidal ... and they went without any kind of appropriate treatment or supervision. They set out to kill for their own reasons ... and they only partially succeeded.

Your homework for tonight ...

Jeff's done gone and got himself good and riled up (that's a Southernism, ya'll) ... and with good reason.

Men like to look at naked women; this timeless truth endures. I've got no problem with that - adults will make their own choices about the morality of it and there seems to be no shortage of women willing to oblige. But when pornographers explicitly and intentionally target young children - I get pissed off.

While researching the element zinc on the Internet for my 11 year old son, I "stumbled across" an extremely sexually explicit website called "The Nasty Bus."

The site depicts a school bus on which sexual acts take place.

This shows that these people will go to any length to get their "product" in front of as many eyes as they can ... and they care not how old those eyes are. Boys will be boys ... and curiousity is often stronger than good sense, especially when it involves nekkidness. I cringe to think that this kind of smut is the earliest vision of sex for some young boys ... we have a hard enough time teaching our kids to respect each other. The portrayal of sex in porn does nothing to engender the kind of respect we need to have for each other. It teaches nothing except that women are toys to be used for men's pleasure, and the acts are hardly realistic either. Yech ...

You go, Jeff! Give 'em hell!

Democrats PESTs have no clue about real trauma

This kind of crap just sets my teeth on edge ...

Psychologists blast Rush Limbaugh for mocking traumatized Kerry voters

I am NO fan of Rush Limbaugh ... I think he's a pompous, over-blown, arrogant ass. And I do not agree with mocking those with serious mental disorders. However, the whining, bitching and moaning of Kerry voters is seriously grinding on my nerves. Get over it. Geez! And what it REALLY pissing me off is they have now classified this as a real mental disorder.

The Boca Raton News reported last week that more than 30 distraught Kerry supporters in South Florida contacted the non-profit AHA following their candidate’s Nov. 3 concession to President Bush. AHA officials have diagnosed the disorder as Post Election Selection Trauma (PEST) and have scheduled the first of several free group therapy sessions for just after Thanksgiving.
Cooperman, whose professional practice is based in Delray Beach, said the election-related symptoms she sees in the Kerry supporters more than quality PEST as “a legitimate syndrome or disorder within the trauma spectrum,” according to the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.

They have NO freaking clue what trauma really is.

Perhaps they could ask my son. He could describe what it is like to be 13 years old and realize that your father hates you. To have your father and step-mother torture you for hours on end by forcing you to hold heavy books until callouses form on your arms. To have your father punch you in the face because you made a mistake. To have your father strip your pants off in the middle of a parking lot and whip you with a piece of garden hose until you are black and blue from mid-back to the knees. To be finally placed in the loving, gentle, safe arms of your mother, only to have your father continue to spew hateful things about her in therapy sessions with you, to the point where the therapist calls a halt because your father is doing even more damage to you. To never, ever, not once hear your father apologize or take responsibility for his actions and instead blame you and your mother for the mess he is in. And then, for said father to never once even so much as pick up a phone to call and find out how you are doing in over three years, much less do anything like try to see you, repair the relationship or even send a birthday card or Christmas present ... and then, when confronted, he gives lame-ass excuses, feigning ignorance of his rights. (And now the fucker is trying to dodge his financial obligations to his son and causing further financial hardship for his son's mother. Such a monster should not have been allowed to breed.) And as a final cherry on this perverted sundae of evil, this father's wife, also a convicted child abuser, has found it necessary to slander and threaten me on her web site ... and she thinks this man is a saint! That really tells you something about her morals ... an alley cat would be ashamed. Details will be forthcoming in entries reserved for members only ... including what happens when my attorney takes this bit in his teeth.

I could go on ... but my blood pressure is rising.

Anyway, these whiny-ass, idiot, lefty liberals who are so caught up in the Michael Moore delusions of America think they are traumatized. I laugh. Ha ha. They are depressed because their hero ... who slandered Viet Nam military, gave comfort and aid to the enemy, consorted with known communist agents, did nothing in 20 years in the Senate besides vote No for every appropriation for the military, who wants to appease such animals as the Dear Leader of North Korea and the mad mullahs of Iran, who wants to kiss ass with the Frogs and bow down before the corrupt whims of the UN ... lost the election. Wah. Piss off, ya cry babies. Let the psychologists treat those with real mental disorders ... and sorry, "delusions of Kerry grandeur" does not count as a disorder, it's just stupidity. Or hatred. Take your pick. And for God's sake, get the fuck OVER it!

Politically Correct?

The peace-loving, tolerant, sensitive, politically correct Dems are at it again .... Via Michele and Michelle

Tennessee Democrats Compare Republicans To Special Olympics Children

image

Click for full size disgustingness

October 12, 2004 – Democrats in a race for a state House seat in District 82, are circulating a flyer that shows a retarded child with President Bush’s face running in a track race. The headline says: “Voting for Bush Is Like Running In The Special Olympics: Even If You Win, You’re Still Retarded.”

The flyer is being distributed by Democrat Craig Fitzhugh. His opponent, Dave Dahl has issued a call to Fitzhugh to stop distributing the flyer.

According to Dahl, “Hard-ball politics is one thing and everyone expects tough battles, but using those who are born with mental disabilities for political fodder is disgusting.”

Dahl says the flyers have been distributed for at least two weeks from Fitzhugh’s campaign office in Ripley, Tennessee. It also serves as the Kerry-Edwards headquarters. “At first, I really did not believe that Fitzhugh and the Democrats would stoop to such gutter politics, but then people started bringing the flyer to me at the end of last week. I was shocked and disgusted.”

“This kind of reckless disregard for those who suffer from mental disabilities is much larger than any state representative race. This act is so atrocious and indecent that my campaign will be sending a copy of the Fitzhugh flyer to the United States Special Olympics Committee, the Special Olympics International Group and state and national advocacy groups who work with and support special needs children and adults.”

This most recent attack on Republicans as mentally handicapped is not new. On October 28, 1994, while in Virginia, then-Vice President Al Gore attacked Oliver North's Senate bid supporters as "the extreme right wing, the extra chromosome right wing." Advocates for those with Down's Syndrome, caused by an extra chromosome, were outraged.

This goes beyond the pale ... it makes me want to puke! Here is the sick fuck that is distributing this vile thing ... Craig Fitzhugh.

I have already fired off several emails to local media outlets. Go here and do the same.

Update: TeamGOP has issued a press release, and Michelle Malkin is all over this and has more ... Fitzhugh's office is giving her the run-around ... go figure.

Update: Bill Hobbs has more ... lots more. Go see.

Be sure to check the comment here left by "catalexis" ... He/she doesn't like the moniker "moonbat" ... that's OK. I kind of prefer "Morlock" myself. I almost didn't let the comment through ... the first paragraph is nice, just what I would hope to hear from Dems when others of their party step across the line. But then "catalexis" loses it and demonstrates for us the typical mind-set of the left ... it's funny, in a pathetic sort of way. I'm tempted to suggest reading comprehension courses, but I don't think that's the problem. So, I will just put up the comment, and then point and laugh.

Insane

Kin May Have to Pay for Legally Insane

Insane in so many more ways than one. Keith Laney, left alone with a severely brain injured child to care for alone, having lost his two other sons to his mentally ill wife, with her committed to a lifetime in a state mental hospital ... he must now fork over the bucks to pay for her care. He could lose his house and farm and be financially hobbled by the state. How lovely. Punish the family of the mentally ill. Makes perfect sense to me ... NOT!

Time is Running Out

Couple Faces Deportation Without Their Child

I got two comments last night on the above entry, signed "Mr and Mrs He." This story still tugs at my heart. One of the comments was actually an open letter "To Whom it May Concern" by Michael G Ryan, a Seattle, WA journalist who has taken up the cause of Jack, Casey and Anna Mae He. In it, he deplores, like me, the cruel and unjust treatment the Hes have withstood at the hands of the Juvenile and Chancery Courts of the State of Tennessee.

Then tonight, I was perusing my web site logs. I am getting TONS of hits from search engines on queries regarding this tragic case. Word must be getting out. It needs to be front page news in every paper in the US.

Whoever commented on my previous entry asked me to contact Dr Hansen Li. I would love to, but what to I, just a single blogger among millions, have to offer, other than my prayers?

I will offer this ... a button to put on your web site, to honor and support the Hes in the battle of a lifetime ... the battle for their child.

Please right click and save to your hard drive, then upload to your web server. Link it to Anna Mae Go Home

Anna Mae Go Home!

A tragic irony ... we here in the US lambast China for their human rights policies. And look what we are doing to one innocent child, who only wants her mommy and daddy.

Couple faces deportation without their child

Chinese couple might lose child
Problems mount in difficult case

By Woody Baird,
The Associated Press Writer
August 20, 2003

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A world away from his home in China and accused of sexual assault, Shaoqiang He made two key decisions.

He ignored legal advice to plea bargain and demanded a jury trial. And when his first child was born with the trial still pending, He and the girl's mother put the baby in foster care because the criminal charge had left them broke and unable to care for her.

The jury trial gamble paid off: He was acquitted in February. But He and wife, Qin Luo, still can't get daughter Anna Mae back -- and now they're facing possible deportation and the chance of losing her forever.

======================

This story has just made me ill. Where is the justice? Where is the humanity??? Why can't the judge just get his act together and make a ruling! It almost seems as if he does not want to make the ruling and is delaying the matter to force the deportation of Shaoqiang and Qin before he has to decide!
