Yet another Jayne hat

Yet another Jayne hat Firefly, the TV series, episode: The Message

Jayne Cobb, mercenary, rebel, ultimate tough guy, receives a hand-knitted hat from his mother. He proudly dons it and wears it day and night.

Jayne: How's it sit? Pretty cunning, don't you think?
Kaylee: I think it's the sweetest hat ever.
Wash: A man walks down the street in that hat, people know he's not afraid of anything.
Jayne: Damn straight!

This is my version, in which I modified several patterns available around the 'net to my liking. I used Cascase 220 in X-red, Orange and Sun. It looks like I have enough yarn left to make two more.

Felted French Market bag

Felted French Market bag After felting. Note the catalog next to both pictures for perspective.

This project, while partly experimental, was a bitter-sweet one. Every knitter knows that not everyone is appreciative of knitted gifts. In fact, the vast majority of our recipients give less than enthusiastic responses. However, there are those who truly do appreciate the hard work, talent and creativity that goes into the making of a knitted item, even one as simple as this. I was fortunate to have made the aquaintence of such a person at my previous place of employment. Sandra would often come over while I knitted on my breaks or at lunch to inquire about my current project, to fondle and pet the yarn and oooh and aah appropriately. Such an ego stroke it was.

On January 31, we both were among a small group of employees that were given lay-off notice in the course of our company being sold to another. I was just finishing this up when we got this shocking and saddening news. Of course, this had to become Sandra's. And so it did. Of course, she gushed and mushed and was positively giddy when I gave it to her. Even if our paths never cross again, we will always have this yarn bonding us together.

In Stitches

This is my photo journal of my knitting and crochet projects. There isn't much here yet, because I just picked up my needles and hooks a few months ago, and for a while there will be some pretty sorry stuff displayed here. Keep the criticism to yerself, thank ya kindly ... and I don't really need much encouragement either, as I am completely obsessed with making stuff out of yarn. Madness takes its toll *cackles with glee*

If you have a knitting and/or crochet blog and would like to be linked here, just drop me a shout.
