It is one of those cases that makes you want to seek out your own children, hold them close and thank God for every day you have with them. Many also wonder why awful things like this have to happen. We comfort ourselves with the faith and knowledge that God has a plan for us all, and He has His reasons that will be revealed to us someday. It is not often that the bereaved get their answer so soon ... “Momma, they got me a heart.” Those are the words Jessica Hensley heard Monday when her phone rang at 1 a.m. in her Kingston home. Jessica’s 12-year-old daughter, Jordon Hensley, called from Vanderbilt University Medical Center with the news that her cardiologist needed her to get ready for a heart transplant. “Jordon called me before the doctor did,” Jessica said Tuesday in a phone call to The Oak Ridger. “She told me, ‘The doctor’s about to call you. I am so excited.’” Jessica said, “We are so thankful to the Paine family. I have not got an official word (about the donor), but I know it was Ashley. As one family suffers the unimaginable grief of the loss of a child, another revels in the joy that theirs has been given a second chance at life ... both resulting from the very same incident. The mind, and heart, boggles. It was exactly a year ago that I was watching a friend lose his beloved wife, the mother of his two boys, his soul mate ... helpless to comfort or help. A mutual friend and I lamented that such a horrible thing was happening to two wonderful, good people and it wasn't fair. WHY? We wondered ... why them? While nothing ever can replace a loved one, ripped tragically from our lives, there can be some comfort from knowing there was another purpose, some good that came from it. One child is lost, another lives, and a dangerous intersection gets school zone speed limits and warning lights. A beloved wife is lost, and another jaded, cynical, and lonely woman is inspired by their story to give love another chance, and hundreds of others who also followed the story* reassess their own lives, relationships and faith. Who knows what else came of the story of Jake and BJ? Other than Jake has moved on and has been able to find yet another worthy recipient of all that wonderful love he has to give ... As I stumble through my own life, coping with challenges, trials and tribulations, it is very difficult to remember that there is a reason for everything, reasons that oftentimes, only God truly knows. We can only let go and let God ... the very measure of faith. Ecclesiastes 3:1 (KJV) To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven *Start here and read forward for the whole story of Jake and BJ. Bring tissues. Lots of them. Yes, indeed ... do I know how to have a good time, or what? "Hey sweetie ... " "Ralllpph!" "Umm ... My name isn't Ralph." Bless his heart, he fussed and fretted over me and did everything he could to make it all better. Unfortunately, I was feeling way too crappy to be able to enjoy all the attention! It was a most miserable 36 hours and I am just now beginning to feel human again ... as in being able to walk up the stairs without being out of breath. Every little ache and pain I have had recently all flared up and tortured me for hours, this on top of generalized aches and soreness. I could not get comfortable at all. I knew it was getting bad when I literally started whining. I think I might have even whimpered a time or two. The moans and groans were definitely not of the sexy type at all. And my appearance through it all? Well, let's just say that if he calls again after seeing me sans make-up with pale, parched skin, hair sloppy and stuffed into a scrunchy, wearing multiple layers of various types of clothing to accommodate the fluctuations of chills and sweating, he is braver than most ... and just may be a real keeper! I am getting so spoiled! Next time though, I want the Hawaiian cruise too! It is truly nothing short of incredible, dazzling, awesome, inspiring ... there just are not words enough to describe the intensity of the experience. I hear that there will be other bloggers in attendance ... Michael Silence and Rob Huddleston ... wouldn't it be cool if TSO did like the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra and invited bloggers as special guests in return for blogging about their experience? Eh? I'm just sayin' is all .... Must run to get in the shower, then cook dinner. I'm wiggling with excitement! UPDATE: The show was, of course, awesomely spectacular. We saw Cathy and Doug's son, Tommy, who was there with his grandmother. Rob Huddleston and wife were across the aisle and two rows up ... we weren't able to catch up to them to say hello though. Never saw Michael Silence. While waiting in line to get in, I checked my feeds via Pocket PC (OMGz I loves me some PPC phone!) and found out that Netmom and hubby were there also, but I didn't see them either. We stayed afterwards standing in line to get autographs and chat with the musicians. They were, as before, warm and gracious. It was a wonderful evening of fantastic music by one of the most awesome groups around ... and it really wasn't all that bad that the chairs on the floor were a little close, it meant 2 hours of cuddling with my favorite person! Entertainment 2007-11-07T21:18:01-06:00 My latest support nightmare http://www.lissakay.com/index.php/weblog/my-latest-support-nightmare/ http://www.lissakay.com/index.php/weblog/my-latest-support-nightmare/#When:05:17:00Z Does everyone else have the same nightmares with technical support? Or am I overly picky because that is what I do? Is it too much to expect that, even if the answer is not there, the tech support people will leave the rudeness out of it??? And at least give the pretense of trying to help? I am still dealing with the issue with my RSS and Atom feeds not updating in Google Reader (and only Google Reader!) Google continues to deny that it is their problem. My web host has looked at absolutely everything, even going so far as to take down the entire server firewall to prove to Google that they are not being blocked by the server. Still no joy ... at all. And to think that I heartily recommended Google Reader to many, many people. No more. Use anything else that works for you ... avoid Google Reader! Bloglines Beta is looking good. Now to the latest. When I was preparing to update my system to run Windows Vista, I researched to find a graphics card that would work and not break my budget. I ended up with the Sapphire Atlantis Radeon 9600 Pro. I sure would have liked to go with a PCI-Express card, but that would require a new motherboard, which would in turn require a new CPU. Might as well just build a whole new system at that point, which I did just about two years ago. What I have now suits me fine for what I use it for. I have no need for the latest and greatest in hardware. So, I installed the card, formatted and installed Vista and all was good. Then I decided to install Nero on the desktop. I had it on the laptop (WinXP) and all was good there. And even on the desktop, it mostly worked ... for video editing, DVD copying and writing - the stuff that I originally got it for. Then I tried playing a DVD. Before Vista, I had an install of PowerDVD that came with the DVD drive. But it was an OEM version and there was no upgrade for Vista. I would have had to purchase the full version. As soon as the DVD loaded and started up, Nero Show Time came up - and promptly crashed. I wrote to Nero tech support. They analyzed a report generated by their tool on my machine, and they said that I should upgrade my graphics card drivers. Alrighty then. I went to the ATI support page, found the driver indicated for this card for Vista listed right there. Cool ... Nero would then play DVDs. It also resolved some other minor but annoying glitches I had noticed. But then I had no Vista Aero display. Or transparency. Or other visual effects. Not earth-shattering, but when I buy something, I want it to work as intended. I do not wish to compromise - give up one thing to get another. At least not until every possibility has been explored. So, I open a ticket with Sapphire tech support. I explained what happened and sent it in. Here is the response I got: (copied as is, spelling and grammar and all) Well you have to know R9600 is not the top of the line graphics card, infact its a serveral generation back from the current HD series, so i wouldnt expect too much from this card especially when you are running it under Vista. I would suggest you upgrade to at least X1650 or higher to help you get the type of performace you want for your computer, if you have other questions please get back with us at tech@althonmicro.com. To post a response please go to the link below. Link Thank You Sapphire Tech Support I am simply gobsmacked by this! The rudeness is simply uncalled for, and it goes far beyond being unhelpful. Just to make sure I was not mistaken about the card being supported in Vista, I reviewed both the Sapphire and ATI sites. I found the same drivers linked from both, with no dire warnings of any kind that indicated that there could be problems. I researched for quite a while longer, and finally found on some obscure site, some other hapless Vista user with the same card having the same problem. There was never any indication of a resolution but he left off stating that he was going to try a previous version of the driver, and there was no further follow up from him. But there was another post from someone else stating that AGP cards are not compatible with the latest four driver versions on Vista machines. How lovely. They still list them as being compatible on the site, with no warnings or anything! So, given my current financial situation, I have to find a solution to use with this card. I will try to hunt these older drivers down and try installing them. But I fully intend to return to using Nvidia chip based cards as soon as I can! UPDATE: A user at DSLReports.com just linked me to a possible solution! How hard was that? Not very ... but most helpful! Tech support should pay attention! Not that I have been posting a whole lot lately ... yeah, you noticed that, eh? But when I do, it seems that some newsreaders are not picking up on my feeds as they should, namely Google Reader and NewsGator. I noticed this with the previous post, the Zombie Yoga one. I use GReader and the post never appeared in there. So, I started checking around ... it was showing up everywhere else that I checked, except NewsGator. It's kinda hard to pinpoint when this issue started, since there was an almost two week gap between that post and the one before, which did post correctly. But I did upgrade my installation of ExpressionEngine during that time period. I posted in their help forums, but no one else was having the same issue, and no one had any ideas. In the course of troubleshooting, I tried duplicating the template that creates my RSS feed ... and GReader picked up the feed with the most recent post. Huh, says I. Weird. I renamed the two feeds so that the new one had the same name as the old, and changed the old one. Then I ran it back through GReader ... Nada. It was picking up the old feed without the newest post. Then I changed the subscription URL leaving off the trailing forward slash ... and it worked! By this point, I was tired of looking at the computer, so I gave it up for the day. Today, we are back onto it. I have changed the URL in the HEAD tag for RSS auto-discovery to leave off the trailing forward slash. Now I am posting this to see if it picks up ... This post has been picked up by every other feedreader that I have checked. I did get a response from their tech support, but they lied to me, saying that something is blocking my feed from them. BS ... nothing changed since they were last able to pick it up, and their own webmaster tools show that they can pull the feed URL with no problems. It is paying off quite nicely, I might add. But I am not so serious that I can't also laugh and enjoy myself. Indeed, it is a rare class where someone does not giggle at some point or another. One of my favorite instructors also happens to have a fabulous sense of humor, and her classes always have us laughing. So, I found this to be rather amusing: Have you ever wished you could do downward dog with a decomposing body? Well, City Room hasn’t (doing the crow with an intact body is still an insurmountable challenge), but this combination apparently has been a niche fantasy with some population of New Yorkers. About 75 people showed up in Williamsburg’s East River State Park for an (online) open casting call for the filming of a yoga zombie video on Sunday. “The zombie blogs were only mildly interested in it, it was the yoga blogs,” said Jason Wishnow, the director of the video. The video is to promote The Zen of Zombie: Better Living Through the Undead. The response to the casting call on yoga blogs was overwhelmingly positive, enthusiastic and excited. So there you have it ... not everyone that's into yoga is a patchoulli-drenched, all-organic, herb-sprinkling, humorless hippie. Even zombies can get into it! The yoga corpse pose, or Shivasana, is uh, ... dead simple to do. But if you need detailed instruction, you can watch a video demonstration of the technique. Just don't hurt yourself, mmkay? Tonight is the night of the Knoxville appearance of the Trans-siberian Orchestra in concert. I saw them last year when they were here and was absolutely blown away by the show. My Soapbox 2007-11-06T05:17:00-06:00 I guess it was a glitch http://www.lissakay.com/index.php/weblog/i-guess-it-was-a-glitch/ http://www.lissakay.com/index.php/weblog/i-guess-it-was-a-glitch/#When:20:26:00Z The previous post, published after my RSS feed magically updated in Google Reader still hasn't shown up there ... so it is still broken somewhere. I have had tech support for my hosting server troubleshoot from their end: No problems found I have been working with the support people from Expression Engine, which runs this site: No problems found I have tried my feed in numerous other feed readers, and it works just fine everywhere else. In the meantime, check out my Anywhere.FM fav playlist ... take a peak at what kind of music gets my attention, and maybe discover something new! I am really liking Jem, The Shins and Gomez ... check them out! Set up your own Anywhere.FM profile, upload your favorite music and share too! UPDATE: 6:12pm - still no love from Google. This post has been picked up by every other feedreader that I have checked. I did get a response from their tech support, but they lied to me, saying that something is blocking my feed from them. BS ... nothing changed since they were last able to pick it up, and their own webmaster tools show that they can pull the feed URL with no problems. I had such high hopes for Google Reader too ... disappointing and frustrating!
